Corrupt Time Machine recovery
Although Appleās Time Machine is widely used as a backup service, there are occasions when it fails, resulting in a corrupt sparsebundle database. Time Machine is often used with the Apple Time Capsule, which can fail due to overheating.
Our engineers are have advanced Apple recovery skills, including corrupt Time Machine backups. If your backup has failed, or you discovered it has not been working for some time, they will repair and rebuild the database and restore lost data. They are able to recover Time Machine from serious corruption.
If you have a Time Capsule that is currently powered on and making clicking noises, or no noise whatsoever (drive not spinning), it should be switched off immediately to reduce the chance of further damage or even permanent data loss. There are known concerns with Time Capsules, with heat being one of the causes of failure.
Our engineers provide Apple Time Machine recovery, and also recover failed Time Capsules. Recovery is almost always possible from any of the following failures:
- Power failure or surge / power spike
- Failed hard disk drive – often due to overheating
- Sparsebundle corruption
- IT Admin or user error
- Firmware update failed or firmware corruption
- Data deleted by mistake
The Recovery process
Once we have repaired and recovered the Time Capsule, we can image the sparsebundle (the database containing your backup) to a new external hard drive so that you will be able to carry on working with all your data intact. Following a restore, there are known issues concerning permissions, and you may need to repair these manually.
