ACER refuse warranty for hard drive recovery

We are currently dealing with a situation on behalf of a client who purchased an Acer computer.

The company who is handling Acer’s repairs is known as infoteam

Our client’s hard drive failed in their Acer notebook. Understandably, the client was concerned about warranty restrictions and contacted the company.

They told him that if the hard drive had to be opened (seal broken) then it would invalidate the warranty. Unless the drive was sent to one of their “recommended” data recovery companies.

We believe this practice should be made illegal. It certainly is monopolistic.

We’ll update this as and when we correspond with the relevant companies.

We’re currently having discussions with Acer (or their repair outfit, called Infoteam) about this very issue. We’re going to post details of our progress on this page.
