The System Area of a hard drive is a reserved area within the storage medium. It is used for SMART logs, bad sector allocation and for drive-specific information.
This area is not accessible to the user without special equipment.
Should the system area become corrupt, it will usually prevent access to the user data, requiring specialist data recovery services.
